Hi there Hermione,

Here I am going to tell you about my science experiment

Question:

 

How does light travel when it is being reflected?

Can I hit the bullseye target with my ray of light?

What would happen if I used multiple mirrors? 


Hypothesis 

  (what do I think will happen before my experiment and why do I think that?)

 

I think that light travels in a straight line.

Yes you can hit the bullseye target.

At this moment I Don’t know.

What materials have I used

 

Mirror

Clay

Flashlight

Card

 

Procedure – What did I do (Step by step):

 

  1. I gathered my materials
  2. I set up my card with the clay
  3. I set up my mirror
  4. I shone my flashlight into the mirror to see how and where the light bounced off

Observations:

 

My mirror needed to be higher.

Then it finally worked.

 

Conclusion

My hypothesis was right.

The light hit the bullseye.

Now I know that it still hit the bullseye with  mirrors

My recount

Hi there Hermione here. My class just learnt how to make a recount.

What is a recount?

A recount is something that happened to you in the past .

A recount needs:

  • Chronological order
  • Past tense verbs
  • Use transition words like, First, Next, Finally

here is my  recount

       My vacation to Ripley’s Aquarium

 

When we were in Toronto visiting my cousins we went to Ripleys’ Aquarium. It took 4 hours to get to Toronto from Ottawa.

First when we entered Ripleys and my parents were scanning in, we went to see the fish. Me and my brothers spotted Dory and Nemo. I felt excited about seeing the Sharks. I am very interested in Sharks. Before we found the sharks, we looked at some fossils and sea animals. We saw lobsters, crabs, sideways fish and about 1 million other fish! The tank is really tall, it went from the ceiling to the ground. The tank is two of our classrooms high. There was one species of fish but there were a lot of them.

After that we went to see how we could get to the  sharks. We checked the map that was on my dads phone. Once we found out where the Sharks were we went downstairs onto a moving sidewalk which went through a tunnel that was like an underwater submarine! We went into bubbles that popped out of nowhere and you were surrounded by fish from floor to ceiling.

Finally, we saw sharks. The Sharks were very cool and my brothers really like sharks. It was my youngest brothers’ first time seeing a real shark and it was really cool. After we were done seeing the sharks we petted sting rays. I was a little scared at first but then when I saw the people who worked at Ripleys, I felt better. I was careful not to pet the stinger.

We also used are recounting skills for our visual story board  of The Wild Robot

Hello there I want to tell you about my science experiments.

experiment 1 : Hanger with spoon

Hypothesis:

My hypothesis is that it will sound like a spoon dropping.

conclusion :

It sounds like a drum.My hypothesis was wrong.The sound travels because of vibration.

experiment 2: TELEPHONE 

Hypothesis:

I will hear WaterKing

conclusion :

My hypothesis was right I heard WaterKing.

 

Beavers

Did you know that beavers do not hibernate. Because they still need to chew wood. In winter it is hard for them to move.

Beavers use all sorts of materials from nature. Such as spider silk,cacoon silk or hard mud to keep their structure in place. Beavers can impact the environment. This is what inside a beaver lodge looks like.  Press the link to see a beaver building a dam.

What happens when a beaver dam breaks

It is a difficult thing to remove a beaver dam. Sometimes other beavers can decide to take over the spot and build a new dam. A flood could happen downstream if you remove a beaver dam and let all the water go that was held by the dam.

 

         

 

 

               How many beavers can live in a lodge      

 

As many as 8-12 can live in a lodge for 10-15 years,as a family unit may live in a lodge.Although the average is  about 5.

                       Parade float

Problem: Can I build a parade float that can hold 100g and travel 50 cm?

Hypothesis: I think I can make a parade float that can hold 100g and can travel 50cm.

Materials

  • Tissue paper 
  • Hot glue
  • Blue tablecloth
  •  7 pieces
  • Cotton 
  • 2 bamboo  skewers 
  • Cotton balls
  • Another 3 pieces of cardboard                                                  
  •     elastics 
  • Golf balls with holes

Results: It passed, it can hold 100g and can travel 50cm.

   

Persuasive writing

We should have a class pet in OJCS. The kids could have more responsibility in the class. It could cheer us up. We could take care of it. This is why we should have a class pet.

The kids could have more responsibility in the class. Kids who are not the rep won’t feel left out.  The more they have responsibility they will be better leaders. They will learn better if they learn responsibility. Responsibility is good to learn. 

 It could cheer us up. If you are in the red zone it could calm us down. If it is a rainy day you will be happy. Kids will want to come to school every day and they will go home happy. Class pets keep kids calm.

We could take care of it. We could feed the pet. We could clean its cage. We will make sure it has a vet. We will take good care of it.

These are the reasons we should have class pets in OJCS. Students will take more responsibility in the class. The students will be better leaders if they are good at being responsible.
